 Hi Howard,

It's been a while since we've had a chance to talk. Kathy and I have been a bit worried about the SARS problem in the Hong Kong area and hope it has not affected you or your staff at Jet-Tern. I finished school in June for the 747-400 and was scheduled to fly the Chicago-Hong Kong-Singapore route but my flights have been canceled due to SARS. I will probably be back on the Hong Kong route in August. (a United dispatcher has a some great pictures of the 400 including one of my flt on July 4 go to www.pbase.com/image/18628908). I have a new hat for you and will FedEx it to Jet-Tern, this one has a bigger airplane on it, 885,000 pounds vs the 777 GW of only 640,000 pounds.

"Yankee Girl" has been better than ever, everything is working perfect and my new Naid stabilizers make the chop in Buzzards Bay disappear. I am in San Francisco now but will return to Chicago tomorrow and catch the first flight back to Providence to spend a week on the boat.

Thanks again for making such a great boat for us.

Jim Peters

Dear Jim,

Thanks for your kind letter on July 14th. I believe you and Kathy now are on board your Yankee Girl in Providence.

SARS hadn't affected our company, and I believe it already calm down and under control. WHO has lifted out the " Traveling Advisory " for China & Taiwan last month, it is safe to travel to China now, we have several foreign visitors in this month.

It's great to hear about you have completed the training for Boeing 747-400, maybe someday I can take your plane to State. I have looked pictures on the UAL website, it's really a fancy fly. The cockpit of Boeing 747 is much complicated than a Selene. I think you knew the former chief designer of Boeing 747, Mr. Dick Johnson, also own Selene 4314 but with a Wesmar stabilizer.

Thanks for your gift, new 747 hat, you can send it to our shipyard, the address is :
No. 3, Kuo-Tai Road, Yeong-Koou Administrative District, How-Jie, Dong-Guan, Canton, China  #523947
Tel : 86-769-591 5748

I put the Boeing 777 hat, that you gave me last year, in our VIP room. I have also prepared a gift for you, a Selene pen and a Selene key holder, I will mail it to you next week.

I am not sure if you know our new website. www.jetternmarine.com , you can visit it for the update information.

I am also glade to hear about Yankee Girl has the new Naiad Stabilizer installed, I had been experienced it myself in a Selene 47', and it really has very good performance.  Hope you & Kathy enjoy boating in Providence.

Best Regards,

Howard Chen / Jet-Tern Marine

l       Where did the “ Selene ” name come from?

Selene is named after the goddess of the moon, it is a long story dating back to 1967, two years before the American astronauts landed on the moon. The famous Taiwanese Architect Mr. Da-Hong Wang started the concept to design a memorial building for the landing on the moon. Since the name for the launching rocket is “ Apollo --- the god of the sun “ in the Greek mythology, so Wang selected the “ Selene --- the goddess of the moon “ for the name of this memorial.

Wang was the classmate of the world famous Architect I.M. Pei of Harvard University in 1942, also he is the teacher of Howard Chen at the graduate school of Architecture of Taiwan Tong-Hai University in 1997. Wang’s father is the former minister of foreign affairs, so after the graduation from Harvard, Wang returned to China to commence his architecture career. Then he eventually moved to Taiwan together with the central government, as in 1949 the People’s Republic of China (PRC) took over the Mainland China, and the original Republic of China (ROC) withdrew to Taiwan. Wang had designed several splendid buildings including the private houses, government offices and several buildings of the University in Taiwan. His designs are recognized to be the milestone in the history of Taiwanese architecture. He is one of best architect during that age.

l        What is the meaning of Jet-Tern Company’s logo?

The company name of Jet-Tern Marine derives from Chen’s family business,  a world leading table & kitchen ware company. Jet-Tern is the same pronunciation of their Chinese company name, however, “ Tern “ also means one kind of sea gull, so when Howard designed the logo for the company, he picked up the JTM ( the initials of Jet-Tern Marine ), and he eventually converted the “ M “ into the shape of a sea gull, flying between the blue ocean & sky, going forward without hesitation, looking for the bright future. It will need courage, strong willing and the spirit of excellence.

Dear Dealers,

We have successfully released the hull of Selene-4318, the first hull of
Selene-43 by Cook Flag Blue gelcoat, she looks very beautiful & without
the print through.

We have been appling the most advanced equipmant and the best available
material for all of our boats. Like the MVP airless gelcoat / resin
spray gun as well as the Cook gelcoat, Cymax unidirectional biaxial
fiberglass, Coremat and Vinylester resin system for more stronger
structure &  avoiding the print through defect.

This system will let Jet-Tern Marine can assure their FRP quality while
laminating the color hull. Actually we are building the IG 32' & Gourmet
Cruiser 32' for the Yardway Marine, there are a lot of different color
option for the hull, like Off white, Oyester White, Flag Blue, Dark
Green, Mahogany Red, Yellow  & Black ...... a very colorful series.

Best Regards,

Howard Chen / Jet-Tern Marine

Dear Dealers:

After more than one year's training and learning and strict assessment, we are very pleased to announce Jet-Tern Marine has been successfully approved by ABS Quality Evaluation Inc. for the application of ISO 9001, 1994 edition.

ABS Quality Evaluation Inc. had issued the official certificate to us on Aug 1st, 2001. The certificate number is 35916.We believe Jet-Tern Marine is the first pleasure shipyard in China that gets the ISO 9001 certificate.

We are also entitled to use the ABS QE Quality Mark and the Marks of the Accreditors. In the future, we will be able to use the marks on our brochures and technical files. This will upgrade the quality image of our yachts.

The ISO 9001 Quality Management System will be very helpful to stabilize and systemize our quality control system; in the meantime, Jet-Tern Marine will keep improving their quality from material, design and manufacture as well as the production efficiency. We also hope you can provide us more support from the marketing and sales. We are looking forward to the long-term cooperation with you.

We have made a color duplicate of the certificate and will put it into a wood frame, we will send it by airmail next week.

(5) The living ability (Accommodation, water, electricity, galley
function, propane, freezer, hot water, view from pilothouse, washer /dryer, toilet...)

1. Water leaking from door pilothouse starboard and from the deck hatch on the master room.

2. Propane gas running out soon after arriving Isigaki. It was leaking through a hole on copper pipe under the deck.

3. Refrigerator did not work 48 hours after leaving HK.

4. Needed some stopper at cooking burner to hold pan at high seas.

5. Did not use  freezer and washer / dryer yet.

6. Bamboo blinds started dancing noisily at high wave condition and damaged vanished surface.

7. Air conditioning at main salon did not work.

(6) The boat's performance (rolling, pitching...)

1.       At all times I felt very secure on the Solo. The sidedecks were great for docking, the flybridge an excellent

lookout position, and the Portuguese bridge a particularly good feature when keeping watch at night.

The centrally located galley made food preparation underway very convenient (forget thoughts of gimballed

stoves), and the window on the engineroom door made routine checks a breeze - though the light switch

needs to be outside the door, not inside!

2.       Pitching is smooth and easy, got only a few times punting bow in 4m wave. The boat did roll uncomfortably

at beam seas. Rolling are heavily about 30 degrees at 4m wave from abeam. I suggest installing stabilizer.
